Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, a spinoff developed by NetherRealm Studios and published by Warner Bros. Games, is being billed as a “collection role-playing game” for mobile devices. It is scheduled for release in 2023. Players in Mortal Kombat: Onslaught will be able to form teams of fighters and engage in “massive real-time group battles,” according to a press release. Spinoffs are a natural way to capitalize on the rich roster of playable characters in the Mortal Kombat franchise, which includes a large main cast and a large pool of supporting characters. Given what we do know about the game so far, Onslaught is expected to take inspiration from The King of Fighters All-Star, SNK’s mobile release that transformed KoF into a successful role-playing game; nevertheless, the game’s approach to group combat will push it beyond what SNK has accomplished. Warner Bros. Games President David Haddad reaffirmed the studio’s commitment to expanding its horizons. “Mortal Kombat is a legendary franchise and pop culture phenomenon, and it continues to engage players and advance the fighting genre across multiple platforms,” he said. Since Mortal Kombat Mobile was released, there hasn’t been a new mobile entry in the Mortal Kombat franchise. This game is one of the most successful on the mobile platform. As Mortal Kombat approaches its 30th anniversary, this first mobile-exclusive cinematic story experience will test the boundaries of what gamers have come to expect from the series. In addition, a new website went up, however, all that it has to offer at the moment is a newsletter sign-up for anybody interested in learning more about the game. There is currently very little information on the subject; however, we will keep you updated if anything new emerges.
