RTX 4090 Overclocked
The RTX 4090 has clock speeds going as high as 2.52GHz with base a base frequency of 2.23GHz. NVIDIA did mention that these GPUs surpassed the 3.0GHz mark during the testing phase. This time, the RTX 4090 breaches into the 3.24GHz territory. Not much information has been given regarding the power consumption or the temperatures. However, we expect the wattage to be close to the max TGP of 660W. The most interesting thing is the memory overclock. If we convert GDDR6X memory frequency to bandwidth, the formula comes out to be; A memory overclock from 21Gbps to 25Gbps leads to 20% more effective bandwidth (1008GBps -> 1200GBps). Such an increase should offer decent performance gains, however, we do not have exact numbers as of now. ~NANO Memory Bandwidth = 1562.7 * 2 * 4 *2 Memory Bandwidth = 25003.2Mbps (25Gbps)
Frequency Wars
AMD is planning to reach 4.0GHz with its RDNA3 lineup coming out next month. This is a big step up from what Lovelace can offer. Anything above 3.2GHz for the RTX 4000 lineup will be exponentially more difficult to reach. Moreover, Navi 31 is almost on par with NVIDIA’s RTX 4090 in Time Spy Extreme. This generation, AMD may be looking to cut profit margins, effectively taking valuable market share from team green.
