In a newly released YouTube video, eXtas1s, who has proven to be quite reliable when it comes to Microsoft rumours in recent months, disclosed that the Japanese studio has pursued Microsoft to publish and help finance their next game. We don’t know if Microsoft has agreed to the proposal or the two companies will collaborate again after Scalebound was cancelled.
Despite the Scalebound debacle, a collaboration between PlatinumGames and Microsoft does not seem too far-fetched. Hideki Kamiya and Atsushi Inaba commented on the cancelled game earlier this year, asserting that they would be willing to finish it if Microsoft was prepared. Furthermore, the Japanese studio was reportedly considered for purchase by Microsoft in 2019, so the publisher funding a new PlatinumGames title doesn’t seem all that unlikely. Platinum’s next blockbuster release is set to be Bayonetta 3, which will release exclusively on the Nintendo Switch later this year, on 22nd October. After that, though, Platinum’s slate is clear and the possibilities for a game with Microsoft are endless. Best case scenario, we’re about to get a major Xbox exclusive from one of the industry’s most-respected studios really soon.
