In addition, Pimax, to revolutionize Virtual Reality tech, has started a new crowdfunded project; Pimax Portal, an android handheld device that can be used as a VR headset, satellite PC-powered gaming rig, and a living room entertainment system. If we have to summarize the Pimax Portal in one line, then that would be ‘a handheld device that has it all’ as the official description of the project on Kickstarter suggests: The goal of Pimax is to compete with industry-leading VR and handheld tech products like Oculus Quest by Meta, Valve VR, Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck, Logitech G Cloud Gaming, and PlayStation VR. Pimax Portal has already surpassed its funding goal of $200,000 46 days before its deadline. The Kickstarter campaign is currently sitting at funding of $323,835 with 469 backers.  To ensure the all-in-one capabilities of the Pimax Portal, the device will be powered by the following components:

CPU: Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2GPU: Qualcomm Adreno 650Memory: 8GB of RAM / 128GB of storage OR 8GB of RAM / 256GB of storageDisplay: 5.5-inch, 3,840 x 2,160 resolution, 144Hz LCD or QLED displayTracking: 6DoF (six degrees of freedom) tracking via four back camerasBattery: 4,000mAh

Additionally, the handheld device will have 32 physical and 8 virtual buttons with optimized key mapping, analogue triggers, 4 cameras surrounding the body, AR support, and Cloud Gaming support. Undoubtedly the company’s goals are ambitious with this product, to say the least, and it will be fascinating to see how this all-in-one device turns out upon release. While it will be a long waiting period before we see any physical prototype of this product as it is still in the funding phase, we will keep you posted upon receiving any further information about Pimax Portal.  So, what are your thoughts about this?
