Mark Zuckerberg essentially announced the tentative release date of “Project Cambria”, stating “For the next device that’s coming out in October, there’s a few big features“. And he seemed pretty confident about the future of VR, even stating at one point “Imagine if you didn’t have to move to some city that didn’t have your values in order to be able to get all the economic opportunities, that would be awesome. So in the future where you can use AR, VR, and teleport in the morning to the office and show up as a hologram, I think that’s going to be pretty sweet, right? It will unlock a lot of economic opportunity, for a lot of people.”
Project Cambria is Going to be Expensive
While we don’t know if the future holds hologram offices for us, but we do know that Meta’s next VR headset is going to be a high-end release, and according to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, the headset could cost upwards of $1000. That’s because the upcoming Meta headset will have significantly better graphics processing, and computing power than the Quest line up of headsets. While Meta calls the upcoming VR headset “Project Cambria” in development, it could be called the Meta Quest Pro officially upon release. Meta Quest Pro is an absolute priority for Mark Zuckerberg, who seems to have tied his company’s future to VR and AR. Meta has even scaled back other hardware projects, to make sure the upcoming Quest Pro’s development goes on smoothly. The fight for the VR market is going to heat up, as along with Meta, even Apple is planning to release a high-end VR headset.
