Ryzen 9 7950X
The Ryzen 9 7950X is the flagship CPU from the Zen4 lineup. This CPU features 16 cores / 32 threads. This CPU has a base frequency of 4.5GHz where a boost clock goes up to 5.7GHz (F-max of 5.85GHz). The TDP is rated at 170W (~230W PPT). As for the cache, the CPU ships with 80MB of L2 (16MB) + L3 (64MB) cache. When it retails on the 27th of September, it is all yours for $699.
The Benchmarks
Over at Chiphell, the Ryzen 9 7950X running on an unidentified X670E motherboard was spotted. Not much is known regarding the actual setup used, however, the CPU was tested under water cooling. Yesterday’s benchmark was under air cooling. A single-core metric is not available, although, the 7950X scores a massive 38984 points in multi-core testing. To put that into persepective, last-Gen CPUs capable of hitting even 30,000 points were considered top of the line. Of course, we did compile a few relative performance charts. This score is shy of the 13900K by a very small margin. With further BIOS updates, expect the 7950X to breach into the 40,000 territory. However, the same can be said for the 13900K. Similarly, this test was conducted with water cooling, so the 13900K’s performance with the same cooling solution will be fruit for thought. Harukaze’s watt/mm2 numbers give a major disadvantage to Zen4 due to its excess heat (power is directly related to heat) collection per unit area. Although, Intel’s CPUs do run at near 350W levels whereas AMD consumes just 230-240W. That’s a huge difference for a slight increment in performance. A performance/watt chart shows the expected efficiency numbers (Intel’s 13900K consumes ~315W here): AMD’s Zen4 as speculated before is more efficient than Zen3. However, team blue’s silicon has seen massive improvements from Rocket Lake (11th Gen) and so on. It will be interesting to see how both CPUs fare against one another in gaming once they arrive.

AMD:
Ryzen 7000 CPUs, including the Ryzen 9 7950X will officially be available for purchase on the 27th September while pre-orders will go live on September 15. The X670 and X670E will launch alongside the Ryzen 7000 processors. For those on a budget, the lower-mid end B650/B650E motherboards will hit the shelves by the 10th of October.
