Benchmarks

The source did not state anything about the test bench used or about the drivers used. Now let’s get straight to the numbers. AMD’s Radeon RX 7900 XTX scores 19398 points and 35704 points in Time Spy Extreme and Performance respectively. For some comparison, take a look at the following chart (Credit: Videocardz); The RX 7900 XTX is just 1% faster than the 7900 XT in TSE. When compared to NVIDIA, the difference between the RTX 4080 and the 7900 XT/XTX is almost negligible. In the performance preset, AMD loses to the 4080 by 8%.  Moving over to 3DMark Fire Strike, the 7900 XTX pulls ahead of the RTX 4080 by a whopping 7%. Even the 7900 XT is on par with the 4080 in this test. The RTX 4090, however, remains uncontested and is in a league of its own. The most astonishing result is that both the 7900 XTX and 7900 XT are equal in some tests. This could be a result of no driver support meaning that the 7900 XTX has a lot more potential.

The RX 7900 XTX

The RX 7900 XTX is based on the Navi31 chip and ships with 12288 FP32 Units or 48 WGPs (Work Group Processors, 1WGP = 256 Shading Units). The RDNA3 king has 96MB of AMD’s signature Infinity Cache. A 24GB memory configuration (20Gbps) grants it 960GB/s of effective bandwidth over a 384-bit bus. RX 7900 XTX will retail for $999, paving the path for AMD to pull a Ryzen on the GPU market, which is slated for the 13th of December. To be fair, the performance of the RDNA3 kingpin is almost always going to be faster than the RTX 4080. The 7900 XT, however, may fall short by a margin in the single digits. Either way, we cannot wait to see how RDNA3 performs for content creators and in hardware-based video encoding workloads.
